Maynard C. Smith Construction Company, Inc. (MCS) was founded in 1994 by Maynard C. Smith and John Strickland. MCS is locally owned and based in Charleston, West Virginia. Its legacy continues today with Joe Hill serving as MCS’s President since May of 2025.
As a drug-free company, MCS participates in the LEAD Drug-free program. MCS also complies with OSHA rules and regulations. Safety isn’t just a metric; it’s our standard. In 31 years of business, we have achieved a 20-year milestone of zero lost-time incidents—representing 723,654 hours and increasing daily.
MCS has built commercial projects throughout West Virginia and other states. It continues to have a compelling reputation for completing a variety of project types on time or ahead of schedule and under budget.
